💎 Europe Builds Its Own Shopify-Scale Player
Polish technology group cyber_Folks, together with Sylius, has signed agreements to acquire PrestaShop, one of the world’s most widely used open-source e-commerce platforms. The transaction marks a strategic leap that places a Central and Eastern European tech company among the global leaders of digital commerce infrastructure. While the transaction value has not been disclosed, the combined scale of operations is unprecedented for the region.
PrestaShop currently supports more than 230,000 active online stores worldwide, generating approximately €22 billion in gross merchandise value (GMV) annually. Sylius, known for its composable and headless commerce architecture, contributes an additional €7 billion in GMV from enterprise-grade implementations. Combined with cyber_Folks’ existing platforms, the group now operates across an ecosystem responsible for nearly €35 billion in GMV, a level comparable to the largest global e-commerce technology providers.

From Regional Champion to Global Platform Builder
According to Jakub Dwernicki, CEO of cyber_Folks, the acquisition represents a structural shift in the European e-commerce landscape. By combining SaaS (Shoper), open-source (PrestaShop), and headless composable commerce (Sylius), the group can now serve merchants at every stage of growth—from small local sellers to complex enterprise deployments.
Unlike single-model competitors, cyber_Folks’ strategy is based on technological plurality. Merchants can migrate between platforms as they scale, supported by integrations such as Apilo and Sellintegro for marketplaces and ERP systems, and Vercom for transactional communication and marketing automation. This modular ecosystem approach positions the group to benefit from long-term customer lifecycle value rather than one-off platform adoption.
Strategic Markets and Technology Synergies
The acquisition significantly strengthens cyber_Folks’ footprint in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, and global markets. PrestaShop’s strongest markets include France, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States, while Sylius brings deep enterprise relationships in France, Germany, Poland, Italy, and the US. Together, they form a pan-European platform with global reach.
Sylius also adds critical capabilities in headless architecture and composable commerce, one of the fastest-growing segments of global e-commerce. These competencies are expected to accelerate the group’s development of AI-powered solutions, advanced personalization, and enterprise-grade integrations—areas increasingly demanded by large retailers and multinational brands.
Capital, Talent, and Long-Term Ambition
The transaction follows cyber_Folks’ equity issuance raising over €45 million, providing the financial flexibility to execute large-scale acquisitions. Additional bank financing further strengthens the group’s balance sheet. According to management, disciplined capital allocation combined with strategic M&A will remain central to the company’s growth strategy.
Beyond technology and market access, cyber_Folks emphasizes the importance of human capital. The founders and shareholders of Sylius will remain actively involved in developing both platforms, ensuring continuity of vision and deep technical expertise. This mirrors cyber_Folks’ earlier international expansion moves, including the acquisition of MailerLite, which successfully integrated global teams into the group.
A European Counterweight in Global E-commerce
The acquisition of PrestaShop positions cyber_Folks as a rare example of a European-built, globally scaled e-commerce infrastructure provider. In a market long dominated by US-based platforms, the deal signals growing confidence—and capability—within Europe’s technology ecosystem to compete at the highest level.
With a combined merchant base exceeding 200,000 businesses, a global marketplace for e-commerce modules, and an integrated stack spanning hosting, payments, logistics, integrations, and communications, cyber_Folks is no longer merely a regional consolidator. It is emerging as a global platform builder, shaping the future of digital commerce from Europe outward.
