Fresh Inset Secures €1.5M Investment from Radix Ventures to Accelerate Global Expansion of Food Freshness Technology

Polish biotech company Fresh Inset has raised PLN 18 million (approx. €4 million) in a late Series B funding round, with Radix Ventures leading the investment at over PLN 6 million (approx. €1.5 million). The capital will fuel the company’s international expansion, commercial readiness in Europe and the U.S., and continued innovation in its freshness-extension technology, Vidre+™.

This latest funding round pushes Fresh Inset’s total capital raised from Polish investors to more than PLN 55 million, a testament to growing national confidence in deep tech innovation within the agri-biotech sector.

Backing from Radix Ventures

Radix Ventures, a Polish VC fund focused on sustainability and transformative technologies, led this oversubscribed round. The fund’s investment thesis emphasizes scalable impact, and Fresh Inset hits the mark with its solution that reduces food waste at every step of the supply chain.

“Fresh Inset aligns perfectly with our strategy thanks to its groundbreaking technology, global relevance in food waste reduction, and strong international team,” said Wojciech Ratymirski, Partner at Radix Ventures.

This round also brought on board several new shareholder-operators, including Peter Vriends, Tim Malefyt, and Juan Llauro, industry veterans formerly involved in AgroFresh’s $810M IPO on the NASDAQ.

Scaling a Global Vision

Fresh Inset is preparing for one of several strategic outcomes within the next 18 months: either attracting a large-scale financial investor, a strategic acquisition, or launching an IPO on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (GPW).

The company’s recent business milestones have set the stage for this next chapter:

  • Signed a major distribution deal with Janssen PMP, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, for Vidre+™ product rollout across Europe.

  • Expanded distribution footprint in Latin America, including Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador, with repeat orders validating market traction.

  • Received regulatory approvals for commercial sales in the U.S. and Europe, two of the world’s largest post-harvest markets.

  • Established partnerships in the global flower trade and accelerated presence in North and South America, with ongoing expansion into Europe and Africa.

“2025 will be a milestone year for us, as we convert newly approved markets into full commercial launches,” said Krzysztof Czaplicki, Board Member of Fresh Inset.

How Vidre+™ Works

Developed by a scientific team led by Dr. Andrzej Wolan in Toruń, Vidre+™ is a patented 1-MCP-based freshness technology that protects produce from ethylene-induced ripening.

Its innovation lies in the application method: a simple sticker or packaging insert that gradually releases freshness-preserving compounds without requiring additional equipment, cold storage, or chemical spraying. Vidre+™ is easy to apply, biodegradable, and works across a broad range of crops, from fruits and vegetables to flowers and mushrooms.

In 2024, Fresh Inset was granted three new patents, solidifying its position as a global technology leader in post-harvest freshness solutions.

“These patents validate the uniqueness of our approach and strengthen our IP portfolio in over 50 countries,” added Dr. Wolan, CEO of Fresh Inset.

A Polish Deep Tech Success Story

Founded in 2017, Fresh Inset exemplifies the emergence of deep tech startups from Poland with global potential. With a multinational team and products already in use across South America and Africa, the company is bridging scientific research with market-ready applications that tackle urgent global issues like food waste and supply chain inefficiency.
