Horyzontalny Program Naukowy Launches to Support Polish Researchers in Commercializing Scientific Breakthroughs
Akces NCBR, a key innovation accelerator within Poland's National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) ecosystem, has unveiled a new initiative: the Horyzontalny Program Naukowy (Horizontal Science Program). Designed to propel scientific research into the commercial sphere, the program focuses on supporting Polish researchers and innovators aiming to commercialize outcomes of their R&D work.

The program is open to:
Startups (Polish-registered capital companies, less than 5 years old), especially spin-offs/spin-outs from academic institutions;
Research teams planning to establish a company;
Individual scientists or innovators whose R&D projects have progressed past the initial proof-of-concept stage.
Eligible projects must stem from any scientific domain, operate at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3–8, and have clearly defined commercial potential, particularly in the form of a startup company.
What the program offers:
Mentoring valued at PLN 100,000 – tailored strategic and business support from seasoned practitioners;
Grant up to PLN 300,000 – non-dilutive funding for commercialization and business development activities;
Equity Investment up to PLN 600,000 – further support from Akces to accelerate go-to-market and scale-up phases.
Applicants must complete an application form by May 11, 2025, and pass a three-stage selection process: formal assessment, substantive evaluation, and a live Pitch Day.
Akces NCBR goes beyond traditional acceleration by also offering post-acceleration support. This includes helping startups build networks with VC funds, angel investors, corporations, and industrial R&D centers, increasing their odds of successful commercialization and international expansion.
