Żabka Joins Forces with Foodsi to Fight Food Waste with Surprise Discount Packs

Żabka, one of Poland’s largest convenience store chains, has launched a pilot collaboration with Foodsi, a Polish app dedicated to reducing food waste. This initiative allows customers to purchase discounted surprise food packages through the Foodsi app, offering both significant savings and a more sustainable approach to consumption.

How Does It Work?

Customers can browse available Żabka locations on the Foodsi app, order a surprise package, and pay online. They then pick up their package at the designated store within a specific time frame, showing their order confirmation to the store employee.

Each mystery pack contains perfectly good food products nearing their expiration date, such as bread, snacks, and beverages. The thrill lies in not knowing exactly what you’ll get, but customers can be assured that the contents will be fresh and high-quality.

Big Savings for Customers

Currently available in Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdańsk, Katowice, Toruń, Inowrocław, and Legionowo, the pilot phase of the partnership offers surprise packages with a 67% discount—customers pay €2.70 for products worth up to €8.10. If successful, the initiative will expand to more Żabka stores across Poland.

Sustainability at the Core

This collaboration aligns with Żabka’s long-term sustainability strategy under its Green Planet initiative. The company is committed to reducing food waste, cutting plastic usage, and promoting a circular economy, supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production and SDG 13 – Climate Action).

For Foodsi, this partnership is another step in its mission to reduce waste and encourage eco-conscious consumer habits. With over 2 million users and nearly 7,000 partner businesses, the app has already saved over 5 million food packages from being discarded.

What’s Next?

According to Foodsi CEO Mateusz Kowalczyk, the company is testing new app features, expanding in Poland, and eyeing international markets. Żabka previously tested a similar project called “Dobra Paczka”, but Foodsi’s platform provides a more efficient and scalable solution. As both companies refine their strategies, Żabka and Foodsi are proving that reducing food waste can be both profitable and impactful, encouraging consumers to make smarter, more sustainable choices.
