On October 16th, I will moderate another panel on Blockchain and Cryptocurrency, "Blockchain: Beyond Cryptocurrencies," in Wroclaw.
Blockchain is being used in many other ways and disrupting centuries-old institutions. It’s being tested or adopted in our products and services - insurance, lending, legal operations, and identity verification. It will probably change the way we interact with each other and shake up the job market. On Oct 16th, at OpsTalent in Wroclaw, we want to talk about that.
Blockchain has been called the “trust protocol,” and it’s believed to be the start of another technological revolution. It can potentially marginalize banks, government offices, stock exchanges, and everything we used to depend on for authentication, financial operations, and security. Unlike traditional agreements, with smart contracts on Ethereum, there is no fear that someone involved will get the service or goods without paying.

“We believe that new technologies are the main driving force of social change in the past few decades. According to blockchain advocates, it has the potential to democratize a whole range of institutions that used to monopolize our everyday activities,” says Jacek Ratajczak, CEO of PLUG - Polish Tech Link, the event’s organizers. “We want to find out if that is true, and whether it’s a threat or a positive change.”
The second purpose of this event is to spread awareness about Polish innovative technology. There are successful Polish blockchain companies - like Golem, Userfeeds, Getline, Billon or Polish-British Coinfirm. PLUG has hosted Coinfirm CMO Grant Blaisdell at its conference, Polish Tech Day. “There is a lot of innovation happening on the Polish startup scene,” Ratajczak points out. “We’d like people to see that Poland is not just the outsourcing center of the EU anymore. We have global success stories of our own. Events like this aim to show that and invite everyone to help strengthen the international Polish tech network.”
